It’s hard to believe that 5 years ago on February 10, I pushed publish on our very first blog post. I’ve always been a lover of LOVE and I started this website as a creative outlet for myself because at the time, I was bored with my job and found solace in day dreaming on wedding blogs and realized I didn’t see alot of brides who looked like me. Over 780 posts later including 170 real wedding features and 95 engagement features..we are still here. To be perfectly honest, I almost gave up on Chic Brown Bride last year. I felt like I wasn’t doing enough..giving enough. I wanted to do more and give of myself more…and then life happened. If you haven’t noticed we’ve been a little MIA with posts for months now. I don’t usually talk about my personal life but I feel like I owe you guys an explanation.
Someone really close to me broke my heart and it hurt…really bad. I was effed up you guys and I didn’t want to look at others happy and in love because my heart was aching. On top of that, I was embarrassed. I mean how I was I supposed to be writing about love and weddings and my own love life was jacked up?! But, God has a funny way of showing you that your purpose is so much bigger than you. As much I tried to stay away I realized I couldn’t! CBB is my baby and I could never give up or let it go. If anything it’s because of CBB that I believe in love and partnership and know one day it will happen for me. Yesterday, a bride on Instagram wrote this in response to a repost I made about her pending nuptials:
The work your publication does to diversify what a #bride can be is impeccable!!! It is not often that women of color can open bridal magazines and see pages and pages of women who look like themselves. Your publication surreally elevates the level of #class, #integrity, #inclusivity and #elegance in the bridal world…all principles that I stand for and live by.
And it was just like that I knew it was time. Time to get back to sharing our stories, not just on social media but here on this platform where you can read it and savor it. Please allow me some time to sort through submissions and get us back to our scheduled program. In a few days, I’ll be sending out a reader survey so you guys can get the opportunity to tell me how CBB can be better serve you. Oh, and are you apart of our Facebook group? Be sure to join the group and chat it up with other brides to be and newlyweds who are just like you! Through all of this you guys still tagged CBB in photos, sent over submissions and a few of my wedding blogging buddies even checked in on me as well. I can truly say I am so proud of the community I’ve built with CBB and I thank you guys for rocking with me for 5 whole years!!
